There's no two ways about it: wading through the options when deciding to buy a hot tub can be bewildering. While it's easy to see the many benefits of owning one, our customers sometimes have a nagging worry: will I regret buying my hot tub?

Commonly, a couple of concerns rise to the surface (pun intended) right off the bat:

  • What if we don't use it as much as we thought we would?
  • What if the space we've chosen isn't actually a good fit?
  • What if the maintenance is more than we thought it would be?

While we're somewhat biased on the issue, we definitely understand that hot tubs aren't the perfect solution for everyone. As the premiere hot tub store in the Florida Keys, we thought we would compile a list of the most common concerns we hear customers raise, and perhaps provide some insight into how to determine whether a hot tub is the right thing for your backyard.

When you are looking into purchasing a hot tub there are a few things to assess when it comes to your lifestyle and your needs:

  1. How often you will use it
  2. What you're hoping to use your hot tub for
  3. How much space you have
  4. What fits your budget
  5. The various options available

Five questions to ask yourself when buying a hot tub

If you're wondering whether or not you'll regret buying a hot tub, take a look through the five most common issues that our customers have brought up to us after the fact.

In this article, we want to discuss the most common regrets that people have after purchasing their hot tub. Consider all aspects of your life and whether a hot tub will be a valuable addition.

1. How often will you use it?

One of the most important considerations is how often you will use the hot tub. After all, the last thing you want is for your hot tub to go unused! In order to determine how much you'll use it, ask yourself how often you currently engage in the kind of activity you plan to do in your hot tub.

What we mean is: how much free time do you actually have? Are you someone who loves spending your nights relaxing after a busy day? If so, how do you currently like to do that?

If you're someone who is planning to use your hot tub for entertainment of guests, how often do you actually have guests?

We bring up these concerns because one of the major sources of hot tubs going unused is a homeowner who thought they had more time than they actually did.

2. What are you hoping the hot tub will provide for you?

Understanding your personal reasons for buying a hot tub will help you to feel confident in your decision. Ask yourself questions such as:

  • Are you seeking hydrotherapy?
  • Are you planning to use your hot tub for back pain relief?
  • Will you primarily use it for recreation and relaxation?
  • Are you seeking ways to improve entertainment at home?

If you understand your purpose, you will be far more likely to purchase a model that's conducive to your goals. This will ultimately result in a purchase that you're happy with, and can enjoy for years to come!

3. How much space do you have, and where is the space located physically on your property?

One major consideration is to take a look at the actual space you have available. Use the following points to guide your decision:

  • The bigger is not always better: If the size of your outdoor space isn’t big enough.
  • Too small may also be a problem: On the other hand, limited seating and less powerful jets could impact how many people can enjoy the tub at once, and how comfortable they will be.
  • Make sure the space is accessible: Where in your yard will the tub go? Commonly, we've heard customers that are happy with their decision later wish they had placed the hot tub in a different location because it was either too far from their back door, or too close to a walkway.

Certain considerations, like where you will drain your hot tub can be easily mitigated by thinking them through ahead of time.

4. What is your budget?

Just like with any other purchase, you would do well to consider your budget in the decision. Hot tubs can range in price, power output, etc. When you visit a store or discuss the purchase with us over the phone, make sure to mention what your ideal budget is so that we can match you to a purchase you'll enjoy rather than regret.

Additionally, it's extremely helpful to know which times of year are best to buy a hot tub for maximum savings.

5. Have you researched the various models of hot tubs available?

We offer five different lines of hot tubs, and we believe there's something for everyone within those lines. That being said, some are suited to hydrotherapy, some are suited to entertainment, some are suited for relaxation, etc.

If you're unsure of your decision, get in touch with us and we'll help you decide which model makes the most sense for you.

Making the Decision

It's one of the most common questions we get: will I regret purchasing my hot tub? Let us put it to you this way: if you were buying a car, you'd intuitively understand that not everyone needs a Ford F-150, while not everyone needs a Honda Civic. Buying a hot tub to suit your ideal outdoor space is the same way: avoiding buyer's remorse is all about figuring out which hot tub makes the most sense for you, your lifestyle, and your needs.

With the perfect fit, your hot tub will be a delightful addition to your outdoor space!
